Philosopher, author, and educator Dr. Michael Huemer is coming on the show on December 1st! This is one of my “white whales” (a Moby-Dick reference) — a star-struck moment for me as a podcaster, budding philosopher, writer, and book lover. I’ve been reading Huemer’s books for years, and his approach to contemporary issues is fascinating.

His new book, Progressive Myths, analyzes several empirical and factual claims often upheld by progressive thought, showing how some are demonstrably false or highly misleading. In other words, the book breaks down myths about individuals, racism, gender, economics, and science — not from an emotional stance but with a researched, factual framework to examine if they truly hold up.

I value Huemer’s work because he teaches me to think for myself. Like any philosopher, I don’t always agree with his conclusions, but I respect his approach. He engages each debate with a steelman perspective, focusing on facts. If we approached religious, political, and other “hot-topic” discussions similarly, rather than through social media flame wars, we’d be better off.
