Stacks of books that look like cairns

Stacks of Books

I live four-and-a-half hours away from Moab, Utah. It’s a place known for incredible hikes, Jeep trails, and whitewater rafting. If you go on a hike there, you’re bound to see stacks of rocks called cairns. Hikers (who have gone before you) balanced rocks as trailside markers to keep you on the path – otherwise you could get lost.

This morning, as I got ready for the day, I noticed cairns all over my house. Only, they’re not made of rocks, they’re made of books. Stacks of novels, dramas, poetry, non-fiction, and more decorate my tables, night stands, and reading room. It brings me joy knowing that the giants in those pages are standing guard, showing me the way, and keeping me on the path.

Until tomorrow, read slowly – take notes – apply the ideas.
