Wear a Tie When Reading

Since the pandemic, the comfortable “Hoodie” has become my clothing of choice. That changed a few weeks ago when my wife and I started a new Apple TV series titled The New Look. It’s the story of Christian Dior, the French fashion designer. I love the series, but I also love that he goes to work dressed well – something that was a standard in the 40’s and 50’s, especially in the couture scene of Paris.

It rubbed off on me. I’ve begun dressing up for work again. I’m the only one in my office, and it feels strange to dress well for myself. But that’s the point. I work differently now. Reading a book feels more important. Writing my daily post is not a task, but an extension of what I do. Working with colleagues, planning projects, and responding to emails all reflect a greater level of care on my part.

I don’t know how this will work once the summer heat arrives, but I do know this – I read differently when I’m dressed well. And so far, I like the effect.

Until tomorrow, read slowly – take notes – apply the ideas.
