The Untrained Reading Brain

It’s possible to read a book without getting distracted. No matter your background, educational level, or outlook on life – you do have the ability to focus for more than 8 seconds.

If you haven’t read a book in a while, doing so will feel like a chore. That’s normal. Even now, reading this post, you’re brain might be wandering.

Recognize this for what it is – you’re working with an untrained brain. Nobody goes to the gym after ignoring their health for ten years and bench presses 315 pounds or runs for 20 miles. You’re simply not up to the task – YET.

If you want to regain your focus, read a book. Put in 30 minutes of work each day, and within a week, you’ll notice a difference. Your brain will still be a ping pong ball, but you’ll have some control over the thing. Give it a month, and you’ll start to feel human once again.

Until tomorrow, read slowly – take notes – apply the ideas.
