A Man and a woman in an elevator, not speaking.

Stop Reading on Elevators

We often approach reading books like we do riding elevators: we step in, see someone else, avoid eye contact, and wait for it to be over. If there’s conversation, it seldom goes beyond a polite, “How are you?” Now, imagine stepping in and having a real conversation. Who is that other person? What makes them interesting? Why are they there, and what insights have they gained from life? This stranger could turn out to be the most fascinating person you’ve ever met, potentially becoming a friend, mentor, or even a lover. Yet, we usually just nod, endure the ride, and continue with our busy lives.

What a missed opportunity.

Until tomorrow, read slowly – take notes – apply the ideas.
