In Praise of Idleness by Bertrand Russell

In Praise of Idleness by Bertrand Russell

This week, I’m recommending Bertrand Russell’s In Praise of Idleness. Russell challenges the idea that constant work is the key to a meaningful life, arguing instead for the value of leisure, rest, and thoughtful reflection. In a world that glorifies busyness, the essay offers a refreshing perspective on why we should reclaim our time for thinking and simply being.

As you read, take your time with the essay. Russell’s writing is clear but packed with ideas that you’ll want to chew on. Consider how his arguments apply to your own life—especially the balance between work and free time. This book is best read slowly, with pauses to think about how we can integrate more idleness into our own lives.

This book will be available from Edgewater Bookstore when I open doors on Oct 23rd.

Enjoy!
