The Decision to Pay Attention

We do a lot of things on autopilot from driving cars to eating dinner, scrolling social media, and surviving those weekly team meetings at work. Life is pretty much on coast for a lot of us, and that’s why when we pick up a book, it can be hard to focus. Out of habit, we read the words on the page in autopilot mode.

Try this, next time you’re reading a book: Decide to turn your brain on and pay attention. Make the conscious switch from autopilot to hands-on flying. It’s a small and simple decision, but it will make a difference when you read.

Until tomorrow, read slowly – take notes – apply the ideas.
