Notes from a book

When I Finish a Great Book

I just finished a great book, and now the real work begins! I love this part. After reading slowly, the next step is to take notes. All of my favorite passages have been marked. Now I get to go back, review the best ones, and make notes I can use throughout the rest of my life.

You might think this whole note-taking process is nuts, but I beg you to try it. Take a book you love, or one you desperately want to understand, and read it well. Then go back and make some meaningful notes. Try it with one book, and see how it goes.

In a year, you’ll see all of your beautiful books on your shelves and smile, but one will stand out above the rest – the one you read well and studied. That book will always mean a little bit more.

Until tomorrow, read slowly – take notes – apply the ideas.
