You are what you read

You Are What You Read

You really are what you read. Let’s explore…

If you only read poetry, you’ll probably dabble in poetic verse yourself. You may walk a little slower, smell the flowers, and write about them before you go to bed tonight.

If you only read cookbooks, you’ll spend most of your time in the kitchen throwing dough around and adding spices. Your home will smell like fresh-baked cookies and your family will love you for it.

If you only read philosophy, you’ll learn to ask a lot of questions and bother all your friends and family at the dinner table with topics that have no answers. This is me by the way, and I love it.

If you only read business books, you’ll eventually start a little company and learn to perform financial CPR on it until the thing can stand up for itself.

If you only read fantasy books, you’ll likely have vivid Halloween costumes and you may even enjoy going to Comicon or decorating your bedroom to look like a magical forest.

If you only read email, you’ll__________ (fill in the blank).

I know these are sweeping generalizations, and yes, I’m sticking with them. The point is that our books influence who we are, and that’s why we should be on purpose with what we choose to read.

Books matter. They change us at our core.

Until tomorrow, read slowly – take notes – apply the ideas.
