The Brothers Karamazov by Fyodor Dostoyevsky

The Brothers Karamazov

You may have considered this book, but hesitated due to the size and complexity of the work. It’s true, The Brothers Karamazov is over 800 pages of Russian Literature that took me six months to read.

The book is based on a father and his sons, each of which have extreme personalities. It’s a dive into psychology as the family is torn apart by greed, spirituality, lust, and more. You’ll see yourself in the weakness of these characters, and you’ll have plenty of moments for self-reflection.

The Brothers Karamazov is famous for several scenes including The Grand Inquisitor (Does God exist?) and The Onion (Does morality matter?). If you decide to tackle this, give yourself plenty of time. I suggest 10 to 15 pages a day with a good notebook by your side.

This week’s book recommendation is from my weekly newsletter on March 27, 2024.
