The major change I am making as a result of this course is to real slowly. I read for 60 minutes or more from my chosen books every day.
The major change from reading my books is to detach from attempting to control other adults thoughts, words, behaviors. Just takes a lot of practice. The idea is to let them be who they are because the only person you can change is yourself. I’ve been reading about stoicism this year and the same idea pervades stoic philosophy. The reader is urged to focus on herself and realize what she can change and what she cannot change. This is the theme of the Serenity Prayer, also. At the same time as one stops trying to control others, she must do better about controlling herself and growing as a mature adult in her own behavior. These are tall orders and I remind myself frequently every day to focus on my own thoughts, feelings, behaviors so I can make better decisions in my relationships and deepen my own peace of mind.
