A woman reading in a chair on Sunday

Sunday Reading

I often wonder why Sunday lends itself so well to reading books. Sure, I’m not at work and they day is softer, less frenetic, and simple. But there’s something else about Sundays.

I think it has to do with questions. Monday to Friday, I ask work related questions in my head. What’s on the to-do list? Will I make the deadline for a project at work? Who’s emailing me and why?

On Saturday, I ask a different set of questions. What chores need to get done around the house? How many teenagers will be filling my basement to play ping pong, eat, pizza, and watch horror movies?

But on Sunday, the questions are different. I wonder about the quality of my time. What is important and why? What am I doing with my life? How can I spend more time with the people and and books that I love?

It’s a day for reflection, and that’s why reading is so good on Sundays. Instead of rushing to keep up, I can turn inward, breathe deep, and read in the calmness.

Happy Sunday, everyone. Until tomorrow, read slowly – take notes – apply the ideas.
